The birth of a Christian congregation is an event of more than ordinary significance. Who can estimate its influence for good as the years roll on? Those of us who were present when Holy Trinity Church was ushered into being rejoice as we look back and think of the goodness of the Lord manifested in so many ways throughout the course of a quarter century. The pioneers of Holy Trinity Church felt that a Lutheran Church was needed in West Bethlehem. Bethlehem and South Bethlehem were provided with Lutheran Churches. West Bethlehem was growing very rapidly; the time was ripe for another onward movement. To delay the work was dangerous. The prosperity of the Lutheran Church in Bethlehem was at stake. To do the right thing at the right time always means a great deal for the future. The friends of Holy Trinity, that was to be, felt that this was the right time, and the course of events has proved the wisdom of the movement. True, it meant the making of sacrifices on the part of those who were directly interested. It implied demands on the liberality of those who were willing to leave their old church homes. The pastors of the older churches were obliged to give up members to the new enterprise. But they all acted boldly. We shall never forget that meeting in the schoolhouse in West Bethlehem at which the writer of these lines had the honor to preside.
