~ Remembrances ~

My fondest memories are the times I spent with
my church family. My friends were my church friends as well as my school
friends. We all lived on Third Avenue and went to Holy Trinity and Fairview
school. We all sang on the youth choir and attended Sunday School and
Luther League. We attended school together from grade school through high
school. I still keep in contact with some of those friends. Church was
the heart of the family. I thank God I was born in that era of time.
Kathleen Sparrow Up until maybe the 1940s there was only one woman,
Sadie Dieter, who did all the altar guild tasks by herself. She arranged
the flowers every Sunday. She was a maiden lady who lived on Market
Street just beyond Fourth Avenue. We didn't have an altar guild until
Pastor Snyder came, and then he started it. The flowers were delivered
in a box. We had to arrange them in the vases by ourselves. Hank, his mom and dad, and aunts lived across the
street from Holy Trinity. He was seven-years old, and being 1945, the
war years, the highlight was watching the weddings at the church on
Saturday afternoons from his front porch. We joined in 1975 when Pastor
John Kuhns married us in the chapel. I started to play the piano when I got confirmed
in the Beginner's Department for the little ones. I went with pastor
Snyder to the State Hospital, and the residents gathered all in one
room to hear me play. More than 300 people gathered together for our 65th
anniversary services and picture taking, Sunday, November 16. It was
a joy to have Dr. Stine with us, and we are happy for the picture which
will be at least a partial record of the congregation at this stage
in its history. On October 13, 1956 we were married in Holy Trinity by The Rev. Henry H. Snyder, Jr. So, when our daughter was born 10 months later, we wanted her baptism to be on Sunday, October 13, 1957, our first wedding anniversary. Everything was set. But the night before, Audrey Snyder (pastor's wife) called to say Pastor Snyder was sick and couldn't be in in church the next day. Pastor Victor Kroninger was our assistant pastor, and Mrs. Snyder said he would be able to do the service of baptism. It turned out to be his first time to have a baptism on his own. He said he didn't feel confident to hold a small baby as most pastors do. But all went well! Geraldine Mundy Have you paid your pledge to the 70th Anniversary Fund? September 29 is the day final payments were due. We have paid the $16,000 on our organ rebuilding; and the $7,100 for Muhlenberg College; and most of our $28,500 indebtedness -- we still owe $2,900. Help us to celebrate our 70th Anniversary the last Sunday of October, DEBT-FREE! from Holy Trinity Parish Notes, 1957
I remember longing to be on choir, but, you had to be 8-years old to be on Jr. Choir. My eighth birthday was on choir rehersal night and that was one of my happiest birthdays. At 13-years old I was on Teen Choir. We sang at the early service and went to late service with our families and friends. Around 18 I joined the Senior Choir. This September will be my fifty-second year as a choir member. Another desire I had for years was to be a Sunday School Teacher. You had to be 18-years old, and had to have attended Sunday School yourself. This year I completed my forty-first year as a Sunday School teacher. I thank God for that wonderful opportunity to share my love for him and his word with children. Charlene Hein Klase
In August 1973 on a weekend visit with friends in Bethlehem, I met Lou Erb. An invitation to dinner accepted and the unexpected happened -- a spark of compatability was evident and a long distance relationship developed. On August 24th, 1974, Lou and I were married in the All-Saints' Chapel by Pastor Andrew Rehbogen and Pastor John Koons. I truly believe that as a member of Holy Trinity, God provided the opportunities for me to grow spiritually and to put my faith into action. Doris Erb I've been going to church ever since I can remember. But I actually didn't join the church until pastor Snyder coerced me into being a member. I was playing with the hardball team. Even though I had been coming there for years I was never officially a member because I was never baptized. Pastor Snyder told me either I had to join the church or not play on the hardball team. And so one day he just baptized me into the church so I could continue playing. That's when I officially became a member. That was in the late 40's. Ed Muschlitz One of our fondest memories is of a summer Sunday service held at Reservoir Park in Hellertown around 1994. Our first grandson was to be baptized at this outdoor service. He had traveled all the way from North Dakota specifically for this auspicious occasion because our son wanted his first child to be baptized at Holy Trinity. About halfway through the service, a small doe came prancing down the side of a hill towards the picnic pavilion where the service was being held. It stopped dead in its tracks when it spotted us, the bounded off in a different direciton. It was probably taking its usual path to the nearby creek and meadow and didn't realize our congregation was invading the park. To us, this sign of nature was a reminder that God was watching and had sent this little part of His creation as a special type of blessing to remember the day by. David and Gloria Battles and Family
